Sometimes when I’m reading I realize I do not know what is actually being said because I’m lost in the patterns and rhythms of the words themselves. Then I read again and I am struck by the cold starkness of what the words mean and they lose their beauty. I keep reading it over again until both the words and the beauty make sense to me, and if what I am reading is neither beautiful nor important I stop reading and shun the author and those who celebrate the author as well.
